  • Life Update – Moving and Weak Internet

I don’t know about everyone else, but life has been rather busy lately. There is little time to even breath at work, though things should slow a bit in the next couple weeks thankfully. I am hoping things will slow down soon in my home life as well. You see, I am in the process of renovating my home to sell, as well as packing to move.  It is a bit overwhelming, as I have been in this home for over a decade, so moving is exciting and scary all at the same time. The first leg of the move will be the easy part: we are moving into the parents’ basement while we finish renovations and looking for a new job. The second leg of the move will be taking us to a whole new state, assuming a good job can be found first.

All this is to say, content will be slow on YouTube because I will have little time to play games or edit videos. Hopefully, I can still find time to throw some posts on here and get this site moving along, getting myself a little more practiced with the blog. Sadly, I don’t know just how much I will be limited by this process because I will need to devote a lot of time to these renovations, taking time away from the games, but also because I don’t know how good the Internet connection will be at the parents’ house for playing and uploading. I don’t even know if I will have a good place to set up my PC. It’s all part of the adventure, though, so I can’t complain (too much).

I put together a channel update video where I say much the same thing as here, but with Far Cry 3 in the background, so it’s better. 🙂

  • Let’s Play Civilization V as Carthage

I started a Let’s Play of Civilization V Gods & Kings a while back that continues today (I never realized how many 25-minute episodes it would take to finish a playthrough). I wanted to change it up a bit, so I picked a “ring” map type, which makes it interesting in that it really keeps your attention focused on your neighbors, as movement beyond them, even by sea, is very limited. I learned that the map size can greatly affect how much you can fit on it when only one of the numerous city-states I had planned showed up.

In this playthrough, I am attempting to be a warmongering civilization. While I am doing a good job of keeping Carthage at war, I have made a lot of missteps along the way that have kept the civilization weak and prevent the technological and economic advancements needed to match other civs toe-to-toe militarily. I have been able to use the map to my advantage, though, and continue to struggle along with my weak forces.

I invite you to come check out the series. I am still working on my ability to speak continuously, as a Let’s Play of a game like Civilization V needs fairly consistent discussion to remain interesting. I welcome thoughts and feedback on the gameplay, or just general comments and discussion that could be incorporated into this or another series.

  • Creating the perfect Battlefield

What do you feel is the ideal Battlefield game? Think back on all those you have played in the series; what did you like, and what did you hate? What if you could take all those pieces you like, leave out the ones that you hate, and throw in a few fresh ideas, stitch them all together, and make the perfect Battlefield game? That is exactly what Punisher from the Walking Dead Army is trying to do, in that he has called for thoughts and ideas from the Battlefield community on what would make the perfect Battlefield game. He already has a promise from Dan Mitre, EA’s Battlefield Community Manager, that he will forward our discussion on to the developers. Now is the time to have this discussion, before Battlefield 5 (or whatever the next installment will be…Bad Company 3?) is too far into the development process.

I know when I think about it, I come up with a number of things I think could change, so I will certainly be bringing by thoughts to this community initiative, as well as to this site. Punisher’s efforts may be the motivation I need to finally put these thoughts to paper, as it goes.

So, please, check out his video, follow him on Twitter, and join in on the discussion to make the perfect Battlefield!

  • Let’s Play Don’t Starve

I have started a Let’s Play of the fantastic indie survival game from Klei Entertainment, Don’t Starve, on my YouTube channel. I am only a few hours into the game, so this Let’s Play is centered around playing the starting character, Wilson, and putting my learning process on display. It is really quite fun. If you don’t know much about the game, you can also check out my Don’t Starve first impressions video. So please, join me every Don’t Starve Saturday for another episode! Here is the first one:
